AFTRS Indigenous Genre: Scary/Ghost Stories Workshop:Concept to Page with Stephen Cleary
June 26-27 (Saturday & Sunday)

Do you have a scary story, or ghost story that needs to be told? This workshop is an opportunity to learn the tools to write in this genre.

Internationally renowned script developer Stephen Cleary, will examine the genre of scary stories with an Indigenous twist. Carey Carter, Maori filmmaker, co-creator/writer/director of Mataku(2002), a 13 part Maori Twilight Zone series, will offer the case study for how to get the broadcaster interested.

The workshop will examine traditional Indigenous narratives that have circulated orally for generations and assist in repackaging those stories within generic frameworks associated with the global resurgence of Magic Realism in television and film.
