Get ready to make a trip to your neighbourhood music store – past winner of both ‘Deadly’ and ARIA awards, Archie Roach has a new single due out in mid – June.
It’s called ‘Hold on Tight’ and it’s released on a label that has been a long-time supporter of Indigenous music, the fabulous White Records.
As an extra special bonus, ‘Hold on Tight’ will be coupled with two live tracks only available on the single release.
Yes, for the first and only time you’ll be able to hear live versions of ‘Weeping in the Forest’ and ‘From Paradise’, both originally available on Archie’s second album, Jamu Dreaming.
And if that’s not enough to get your heart racing a new Archie Roach album Looking for the Butter Boy will soon be released.
Deadly reporter Leah Purcell caught up with Archie Roach to talk about this upcoming new releases and plans for the next few months.
So Archie, finally some new music from you.
Yeah, it’s been a couple of years but that’s the way it is with me. I’m not a one album a year man.
What’s the new single all about?
‘Hold on Tight’ is about holding on a bit tighter and loving someone a little bit more. It’s based on a song about two people who went through that problem and now they’re holding on tight to each other.
What else is coming up?
The new album’s due out I July. There’s about thirteen tracks – unlucky for some – all written by me. We’ll be touring nationally pretty soon. I’ll be taking my band with me and hopefully getting local talent from each are to
support me.
And what about some words of advice for youngsters?
When you have a drink or anything you need to respect it because it can take a hold of your mind and it’s no good for your spirit as far as I’m concerned. We as Aboriginal people we’re very spiritual people and things like
that interrupt you, they muck up the reception. It’s good to keep your mind clear. If you’re going to go out and have a good time, respect yourself above all else.
