Vicki Van Hout

Vicki Van Hout is a Wirradjerri woman born in Wollongong,on the NSW south coast.Her involvement with indigenous performing arts started when Vicki was hired as an actor for the inaugural Aboriginal Playwrites conference in 1986/87.Thereupon deciding to join the Aboriginal/Islander Dance theatre as a full time student,graduating with a diploma in dance and successfully gaining a grant to study at the Martha graham Sc.of contemporary Dance in New York.

After completing her studies with Graham Vicki worked as a freelance artist before returning to Aus seven years later.Having worked with Bangarra dance theatre and AIDT,and taught at both of sydney’s major indigenous dance schools as well as regularly performing for Fresh and the Garraberras,Vicki teaches a contemporary technique based on the knowledge accumulated as an indigenous performing artist.A style aimed for the mainstream dance community for the perpetuity of the culture and greater understanding.
