Vibe 3on3 returns to Goulburn

Vibe 3on3

Vibe 3on3

It’s got vibe, fun and plenty of action – the National Indigenous 3on3 Basketball and Hip Hop Challenge – the Vibe 3on3® is returning to Goulburn and surrounding regions for a second time on 17 November.

The Vibe 3on3® has toured all over Australia in 2011 visiting Alice Springs, Broome, Thursday Island, Coffs Harbour and many more locations in between. Hosted by Aboriginal basketball star and Black Diamond Claude Williams the event features a 3on3 basketball tournament, rapping and break dancing lessons, art workshops, a dance competition, a free BBQ and a health expo, all accompanied by a backing track of the latest RnB, hip hop and Indigenous music.

It’s a fun, free day for Indigenous and non-Indigenous school students of Goulburn and surrounding regions that encourages sportsmanship, teaches new skills and builds self-esteem, as well as promoting healthy lifestyles and personal responsibility. The Vibe 3on3® will be held at the Goulburn Basketball Stadium and will also feature a host of Indigenous role models, including Cronulla Sharks’ five eighth, Albert Kelly. Executive producer Gavin Jones says excitement is building in the lead up to the event. “As Goulburn is my hometown, it’s great to be able to bring the Vibe 3on3® back to the region for a second time. This would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of our organising committee from Goulburn and surrounding regions, and the fantastic welcome we got from schools and the community in 2010,” he says. “Planning is well underway for the 2011 Goulburn Vibe 3on3®. We’re aiming to teach some new skills, celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and give young people all the latest information so they can build a better future for themselves and the communities. “The Vibe 3on3® really is a community based event that Vibe Australia is proud to be associated with. Its grassroots focus through entertainment and the positive activities such as a health expo involving local health services, the role models who promote those positive messages about staying strong, taking personal responsibility and attending school, mean that the young people of Goulburn, Queanbeyan, Yass, Bowral and surrounding regions will take away positive experiences,” Gavin says. The Vibe 3on3® aims to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen communities and boost self-esteem. It’s also an excellent opportunity for health services and related organisations to introduce themselves to the wider community. For more information go to www.vibe.com.au The event will be held at the Basketball Stadium at Goulburn’s Recreation Area, Braidwood Road, Goulburn and will feature an opening ceremony, face painting and a health expo. The Vibe 3on3® would not be possible without its sponsor the Department of Health and Ageing through the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Vibe Australia.
