The best in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Music

Dark Seed

Dark Seed consists of Matt Griffin (lead singer and rhythm guitar), Anthony Green (lead guitar), Jason Maling (bass) and Richard Lockwood (drums). They come from Armidale and have been playing together since high school.

Dark Seed’s music is best described as grunge rock, pure and hard. Think Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins or even AC/DC on a fiery Indigenous tip and you get the idea. These guys are axe grinders!

Formed in 1993, Dark Seed has supported Yothu Yindi, Choirboys, Front End Loader and Screamfeeder. In 1998 the band spent time in Alice Springs recording and filming their first single and accompanying video clip “Mrs Misery”.

Dark Seed has played some deadly underage gigs in and around Alice Springs, as well as Stompem Ground. In 1999 the band opened the 5th Deadly Sounds Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Awards (the Deadlys) in Sydney.

Nova Oorala is Dark Seed’s debut album, featuring 13 original tracks of pure, hardcore grunge. Step aside ACDC! The boys believe this album is meaningful and inspirational to young people everywhere.
