Indigenous Surfing gets Serious

This story originally appeared in Deadly Vibe Magazine Issue #13 December, 1998

We have just opened The Vault – all the back stories from old editions – dating back to the 1990s. To know where we are going, it's important to understand where we have been. And that story you can follow in the Deadly Vibe Vault!

Well, with the aid of Surfing Australia, Keith Slabb from Fingal Head in Queensland has taken up the big challenge and formed Australia’s first Indigenous Surfing Association – IS Inc. (It stands for Indigenous Surfing Incorporated). IS Inc. is being set up to focus on and provide links for Indigenous surfers across Australia (even in Alice?), with plans already underway for State and Territory offices and ultimately a national network to help promote Indigenous surfing and surfers.

If you want to get involved in Australia’s Indigenous Surfing Association please contact Kevin Slabb on 0755 241 488
