Media Alert – Deadlys launch Friday

Don’t miss your chance to cover the launch of the Deadlys 2011, the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander music, sport, entertainment and community awards in Sydney at The Utzon Room on Friday 15 July 2011.

WHAT: The 2011 annual Deadly Awards, now in their 17th year, are bringing the best of black Australia to the Sydney Opera House once again, with the countdown to Australia’s Indigenous night of nights beginning at the official launch in Sydney on Friday. Deadly finalists will be announced and Australia will be asked to vote for Indigenous Australia’s best and brightest in 2011. Photos and interviewing opportunities, including with Deadly finalists, are available at the end of the formal part of the launch from 11.35am.

WHO: Rhoda Roberts and Casey Donovan will host the Deadlys launch supported by some of the best Indigenous entertainers and personalities in Australia today. Singer Casey Donovan takes centre stage with two performances during the launch, and Karla Grant will speak on behalf of SBS. The music and entertainment industry will be well represented with Brendan Boney and Tessa Nuku from Microwave Jenny; singer/songwriter Nathan Foley; actor Luke Carroll and rapper BrothaBlack (aka Shannon Williams). Traditional dancers Descendance will perform after the Welcome to Country by Allen Madden (Gadigal Elder). This amazing array of legendary and contemporary Indigenous talent, celebrating the launch of the Deadlys 2011 should definitely not be missed.

TIME: 11am to 1pm
