Goulburn to host Vibe 3on3!

Basketball, rapping, break dancing, art and some of Australia’s best Indigenous role models combine to deliver Goulburn’s first ever National Indigenous Vibe 3on3 Basketball and Hip Hop Challenge – the Vibe 3on3®.

The Vibe 3on3® will premier at the Goulburn Basketball Stadium on Thursday 18th November, 2010, bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous people for a fun free day of basketball, dancing, music, health and culture. The event encourages sportsmanship, teaches new skills and builds self-esteem as well as promoting reconciliation at a grassroots level.

Hosted by Aboriginal basketball star and Black Diamond Claude Williams, the action-packed Fun Thursday event features a 3on3 basketball tournament, rapping and break dancing lessons, art workshops, a dance competition, a free BBQ and a health expo, all accompanied by a backing track of the latest RnB, hip hop and Indigenous music.

Event producer Mayrah Sonter says the excitement is building in the lead up to the event.

“We hold Vibe 3on3® all across Australia and this is the first time we’ve been to Goulburn. The Vibe crew are looking forward to putting on an event that has all the best ingredients: fun, action and inspiration,” Mayrah says.

“There’s the opportunity for young Indigenous and non-Indigenous kids to meet role models they can learn from and be inspired by. We’ll be taking some healthy messages to Goulburn that encourage kids to consider healthy life choices.”

The Vibe 3on3® aims to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen communities and boost self-esteem. The Vibe 3on3® is also an excellent opportunity for health services and related organisations to introduce themselves to the wider community. For more information go to

The event will be held at the Basketball Stadium which is located at Goulburn’s Recreation Area, Braidwood Road, Goulburn from 9am-3pm and will feature an opening ceremony, face painting and a health expo.

The Vibe 3on3® would not be possible without its sponsors Rio Tinto Aboriginal Foundation, the Department of Health and Ageing through the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Vibe Australia.
