Deadly Award Nominations – Important Infomation

DEADLY AWARDS

The purpose of the Deadly Awards is to recognise the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to their community and to Australian society. The Deadlys showcases the outstanding achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and provides identifiable national and local role models to inspire all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and particularly our young people.

Nominations are for contribution and achievements occurring from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 (the Nomination Period).

DEADLY AWARDS – PROCESS

The Deadly Awards will be held on 27 September 2011 at the Sydney Opera House, where final winners will be announced.

There are 2 steps in the process towards winning a Deadly Award. These steps are the NOMINATION and the FINAL VOTING process.

This is Step 1: the nomination process. Finalists from the nomination process will be announced on 20 JuLy 2011.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Consider the selection criteria when you are nominating:

  • Significant contribution to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and to Australian Society
  • Demonstrated achievement in their field
  • An inspirational role model for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples

In all award categories, we encourage you to submit supporting documentation to demonstrate your nominee’s achievements against the selection criteria. This could include personal references, resumes, newspaper articles, CDs, film or television footage or upload content onto www.vibe.com.au/deadlys.

HOW TO NOMINATE IN PANEL JUDGED AWARDS

This year the Deadly’s judging panel has been formed, with representation across all categories. The panel will consist of past Deadly winners and experts in their field.

The panel will be involved in the announcement of final nominations, together with judging in the non-popular award categories listed.

You are encouraged to address the criteria with as much information as possible. You can do this in a separate document and include any supporting material such as references, resumes and newspaper articles.

DANCER OF THE YEAR*

Consider the criteria and tell us about your nominee’s contribution, achievements and why he/she is an inspirational role model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

If possible, provide a CD/DVD of the dancer’s performance, photograph, or upload content onto www.vibe.com.au/deadlys

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN LITERATURE*

Consider the criteria and tell us about your nominee’s contribution, achievements and why he/she is an inspirational role model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

What work has the nominee had published (books, articles, poems) in the occurring year.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER HEALTH*

This award is open to organisations or individuals. Consider the criteria and tell us about your nominee’s contribution, achievements and why he/she/organisation is an inspirational role model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Provide examples of any health services or programs your nominee has been involved in and the outcomes achieved.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER EDUCATION*

This award is open to organisations or individuals. Consider the criteria and tell us about your nominee’s contribution, achievements and why he/she/organisation is an inspirational role model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER EMPLOYMENT*

This award is open to organisations or individuals. Consider the criteria and tell us about your nominee’s contribution, achievements and why he/she/organisation is an inspirational role model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Provide examples of any employment services and programs the nominee has delivered and the outcomes gained.

COMMUNITY BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR*

Consider the criteria and tell us about your nominee’s contribution, achievements and why he/she is an inspirational role model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Provide a recording of the nominated Broadcaster’s show.
