Albany – March 14 &15 2009

ALBANY VIBE 3ON3 ROCKS!

The Vibe 3on3® was conducted for the first time in the picturesque Great Southern City of Albany last weekend and was a weekend to remember.

The community turned out in great numbers over the two days bursting with energy as everyone came together to celebrate living a healthy lifestyle and having fun.

Held at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre over the weekend of March 14 and 15, 2009, the opening ceremony featured a Welcome/Acknowledgement of country by Aunty Carol Pettersen on behalf of the Noongar people and a speech by Milton Evans (His Worship the Mayor) of the City of Albany.

Other local dignitaries who attended included the Honourable Wilson Tuckey MP (Electoral Division of O’Connor) who also spoke at the opening and Peter Watson MLA (Member for Albany) who presented awards at the closing ceremony.

Participants smiling faces from Albany were joined by visitors from Mount Barker, Yakamia and

“It was great to see new faces and a fresh new town for our 2nd 3on3 event of 2009” said Miah Wright, Stage Manager of the Vibe 3on3®. “Albany was one of my favourite locations with beautiful kids, community and surroundings and welcomed us with such open arms which made this 3on3 a delight to be part of” she added.

Thank you to the local committee which met a number of times before the event to help organise the weekend and in particular to Tony Norment (Australian Sports Commission) and Cheryl James-Wallace (Indigenous Liaison Officer) City of Albany who were the driving force.

Also thanks heaps to local sponsors Albany Aboriginal Corporation, City of Albany and the Southern Aboriginal Corporation……… and all the event volunteers who worked so hard to make the event as enjoyable as possible for the young people of Albany.

The Vibe 3on3® is a two day Aboriginal youth weekend festival that incorporates basketball, dancing, art, culture and health. We aim to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen communities and boost self-esteem. The Vibe 3on3® is also an excellent opportunity for health services and related organisations to introduce themselves to the wider community. For more information, go to www.vibe.com.au
