Flu can be a killer. Winter is flu season and it’s on the way. Many people think that because flu is so common, that it’s not serious. But it is.
The flu can really kill people. It can be a real problem if you’re in a high-risk group such as older people, people who already have a health problem (such as heart, lung, kidney or liver disease, or diabetes) and people who smoke and/or drink heavily.
That’s a lot of people. The fact is anyone can be hit really hard if they catch the flu. There is probably someone in every one of our families who is at risk. And they need to be protected.
That’s why they need the flu vaccine. One quick jab in the arm is all it takes, once a year, and it can save a life.
It’s that simple. Your mum or your dad, all the Elders, aunts and uncles, anyone with other health problems, anyone who smokes or drinks a lot – they should all have the flu jab!
Maybe you should even have one, just to be safe.
If there is someone in your family who you think needs to have a flu jab, talk to them about it now. It’s free, it’s easy and it can save a life.
