Amunda formed in Alice Springs in 1995. Their name is derived from the Arremte word for Alice Springs ” Mbantua.

Their current line up is Paul Ah Chee on vocals, electric and acoustic guitar; Stanley Satour on vocals and bass; and Nic Guggisberg on drums, vocals, and acoustic slide guitar

The band first travelled interstate in early 1992 to perform at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. They have since earned themselves an Australia-wide following through hard work and consistent touring, travelling to Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Geelong.

Amunda have released three albums, four music videos and contributed to five compilation albums, including the title track to an AIDS Awareness album.

In 1989 they independently released their first album Better Late Than Never. Songs from this album have subsequently been used on a CD-ROM Encyclopaedia of Aboriginal Australia, produced in 1994 by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Islander studies.

In 1992 their second album Civilised World was released firstly on cassette through CAMMA in May, and then on CD through Larrikin in September.

In 1993 they recorded their song “No One Is Too Wise” for the soundtrack to a TV advertisement produced by the NT Tripartite Health Forum on healthy living.

1995 saw the release of Pedlar Avenue, their third album. One of the tracks, “Time Will Tell”, was played regularly on Triple J for five months.

A film clip for the song received coverage on ABC’s Rage. Triple J then recorded three new songs, performed live in Melbourne, for their Australian Music Show.
