On Board
Just you, your board and the big blue ” why surfing is the ultimate high.
Some of us love our surf so much we just have to eat, breathe and sleep it. Take Paul Evans, who not only recently won the Australian Volcom Qualifying Series he also works in a surf shop, runs a surf school and goes surfing every day. So what does he do when he’s not surfing?
“Surf some more,” he says with a laugh. “I’ve been surfing for the past 20 years ” it’s kind of like an addiction. Once you stand up on that board for the first time you just want to do it over and over again.”
This is something that 25-year-old Paul can say not only from personal experience, but also from watching his students.
“I’ve been running my surf school in Scotts Head (northern NSW) during school holidays for the past three years,” he says. “It’s an awesome feeling to watch one of your students stand up for the past time and then turn around and paddle back out with a huge smile on their face.”
